Historical Background:

Datuk Paduka Seri Maharaja Lela is a historical figure believed to have opened and founded Kampung Melaka Pindah in the 15th century. Oral history tells of Datuk Paduka Seri Maharaja Lela, who was an 8th ranking official of the Melaka Sultanate, that retreated by way of the Melaka River with his followers after the taking of Melaka by the Portuguese in 1511.

Datuk Paduka Seri Maharaja Lela, who was assisted by Panglima Datuk Paduka Tuan, Panglima Datuk Debor and Panglima Datuk Si Kudong then opened the settlement of Kampung Melaka Pindah and it is there that he stayed until his death in July 1521 (941AH). He was buried at the village.
