Majlis Perbandaran Alor Gajah

Latar Belakang Sejarah:

In 1829, the British administration of Melaka demanded that the Naning District pay taxes in the form of 1/10 of its crops produce. Datuk Naning Datuk Dol Said rejected that claim and because of that, the English attacked Naning in 1831. The attack was held off by Datuk Naning Datuk Dol Said and his men as they rejected the English interference in the district.

In May 1832, the English attacked Naning for a second time. Although Naning was defeated in that attack, Datuk Dol Said only surrendered in 1834. He was given a pension of 100 Ringgit per month until his death in 1849.

Despite winning the war, the English lost many of its soldiers including George Holford Walker, his horse and dog which and were entombed here.
